Manchego Introduce
Manchego is a highly acclaimed Spanish restaurant and authentic tapas bar nestled on Main Street in Santa Monica, California. Known to locals as a true neighborhood gem, this European-style eatery specializes in offering an irresistible array of seasonal small plates and boasts a carefully curated wine program that truly sets it apart. The concept is built on the convivial tradition of Spanish tapas, where every plate is meant to be shared, fostering a lively and intimate dining experience perfect for friends, family, and romantic dates alike. Manchego seamlessly blends the rustic charm of Spanish cuisine with the fresh, seasonal focus of California dining, creating a unique and memorable flavor profile.
The menu at Manchego is extensive, celebrating both Spanish staples and innovative culinary interpretations. Patrons are invited to embark on a culinary journey through a wide selection of Tapas designed to tantalize the taste buds. Highlights include the savory jamón wrapped dates with Spanish goat cheese, the delightful crunch of fried patatas, served with garlic aioli and a spicy roasted red pepper and feta sauce (often praised as one of the best Patatas Bravas in the region), and the comforting mac and manchego cheese with truffle oil. For those looking for heartier fare, the menu offers larger plates such as the succulent short ribs with crispy polenta, tender lamb meatballs with tzatziki and pomodoro, and the expertly prepared Pulpo Gallego (grilled Galician octopus). A significant and highly-rated specialty is the premium cured meats, including the highly sought-after jamon iberico de bellota (pata negra acorn fed ham). The kitchen also excels at preparing fresh seafood, with the gambas (spicy garlic shrimp) frequently cited as a must-try staple and the pan seared branzino with roasted garlic and fresh herbs earning high praise for its quality and value.
Beyond dinner, Manchego is also a premier destination for weekend late brunch, served every Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The brunch menu offers Spanish twists on breakfast favorites, such as the chorizo omelet with pique peppers and Manchego cheese, the decadent torrijas, also known as “the Spanish French toast,” served with crispy bacon, and a satisfying jamón sandwich. The brunch experience is made even more celebratory with the option for bottomless, freshly made sangria or mimosas for a fixed price, a popular choice for local weekend gatherings. For a sweet conclusion to any meal, the Dulce menu features traditional desserts like churros with cola cao and a creamy flan de yeye.
The atmosphere is a key feature that makes Manchego one of Santa Monica's best-kept secrets. It manages to be at once casual, cozy, romantic, trendy, and upscale. The interior is often described as a quaint, dim-lit setting perfect for an intimate date night. The recently relocated space now includes an even larger, more romantic back garden patio with outdoor seating, allowing California diners to enjoy their tapas al fresco on a lovely breezy LA night. The service is consistently noted as being fast, friendly, and attentive—a professional team that contributes significantly to the overall delightful experience.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I am not a big fan of Spanish cuisine. I know it’s delicious to others, however I don’t like seafood and don’t eat pork. Which is why I don’t choose Spanish cuisine as my top. For this occasion it was a friend of a friend’s birthday.Manchego was absolutely beyond delicious, the beef short ribs were unbelievable. Their Patatas Bravas with Aioli were delectable. Beets salad was one of the best I’ve ever tried, full of amazing flavors all in one dish. Something simple yet delicious was the olive, covered with smoked paprika. Little did I know I was going to find out about my new favorite wine. I’ve always love albariño. Although Eduardo Peña blow my mind. A must try!I highly recommend this restaurant. Not to mentioned the friendly attentive service.
September 26 · Ric ElhawiLovely place! Cute small place, attentive service - EVERYONE who works there. Delicious food! Deserves more than 4.5! We had devilled eggs, patatas bravas, avocado salad, octopus, short ribs, lamb meatballs, gazpacho (one of the best ones in my life). Red sangria and margarita!! Everything was great and we were super full!
August 24 · Ana SaltTook my Spanish exchange student (17 years old) here for dinner. She orders pulpos (octopus) and we both got manchego and jamón. The food was excellent. She felt that the flavors and taste were perfectly authentic to Spain. Service was very attentive — we must have had our water refilled 10 times. Loved the Spanish music…it was such a quaint little girls date!
June 09 · Elisa DuffyA petite-rustic-Spain restaurant.Manchego is a cozy gem in Santa Monica that blends Spanish charm with a welcoming, neighborhood vibe. From the moment you step in, the ambiance strikes a perfect balance between intimate and lively — ideal for a date night or a small gathering of friend. The tapas menu is the star here, featuring a rotating selection of classic and inventive small plates. The bacon-wrapped dates and patatas bravas are consistent favorites, while the imported manchego cheese (of course) adds a rich, authentic flavor to multiple dishes. The wine list leans heavily toward Spanish and Californian varieties, with helpful staff who are more than happy to recommend pairings. What sets Manchego apart is the attention to detail — not just in the food, but in the service. The staff are attentive without hovering, and genuinely seem to enjoy helping guests explore the menu. Pricing is reasonable given the quality and location, especially during happy hour from 5:00pm to 6:30pm.Highly recommended for lovers of tapas, wine, and relaxed sophistication.I am just not sure of the live music time, but it was offered here too.
June 26 · Aitana BloseLove this spot. Service top knotch. Favorite dishes include short rib, Branzino, bacon Mac and cheese, garlic shrimp and octopus.
