The overall journey at Spanish Island Foods can be diverse, based on reported customer feedback. Many patrons praise the food quality and service consistency, specifically highlighting the "DEE-LISH" taste of the chicken pineapple bowl and commending staff for high-quality customer service and a welcoming demeanor. These reviews often point to a clean establishment and a highly satisfying dining experience overall, earning high recommendations from customers in the downtown area.
However, the full picture of the dining experience also includes reports of significant challenges. Some customers have detailed issues with order management, particularly with online orders not being immediately recognized upon pickup, leading to extended wait times of up to 40 minutes or more. Furthermore, there have been instances where specific instructions for food preparation (like omitting sauces or pickles) were reportedly ignored, resulting in meals that did not meet the customer's specifications or expectations regarding flavor and quality, with specific critique aimed at the preparation of items like the Double Smash Burger and the texture of the steak in tacos. Reports also suggest occasional difficulties with contacting the restaurant by phone for follow-up issues.
This variation in experience suggests that Spanish Island Foods, while capable of delivering exceptional food and service, might occasionally face operational inconsistencies. For the local customer, this information is valuable—it sets the expectation that while a truly excellent meal is highly possible and often achieved (especially with favorites like the Pineapple Bowl), patience and clear in-person communication might be beneficial, particularly during peak times or for complex orders.
Despite the mixed reports, Spanish Island Foods offers a unique and worthwhile culinary choice for Pennsylvania residents. What makes it worth choosing is its commitment to providing flavorful, authentic Spanish and Island comfort food that is hard to find elsewhere in the immediate vicinity.
The clear focus on bold flavors, as evidenced by popular dishes like the Pineapple Bowl and the range of specialty empanadas, offers a refreshing break from typical fast-casual fare. The establishment's versatility, offering everything from no-contact delivery to a pleasant dine-in experience (including a quiet upstairs retreat), caters well to the busy and varied lifestyles of the Lancaster community.
If you are seeking highly-praised signature items and appreciate a casual, friendly setting, Spanish Island Foods is a destination that delivers on taste. It is highly recommended to try their noted specialty bowls or tacos and enjoy the welcoming vibe, perhaps utilizing their extensive range of takeout and delivery options for maximum convenience. May 11 · Adonysha ZPlace my order online and When I went to pick up my order they told me that they never received my order. I then showed them my credit card payment of $50+ . The one guy told me he would go check and see if they received it and let me know what was going on. After standing there for 15 minutes. I had to flag him down again and ask what was up with my order. He then told me that they were making more chicken and they actually did receive my order at this point I've been there waiting for almost 40 mins. It took another 15 mins to get my order or steak tacos, chicken tacos, smash burger that I specifically stated not to PUT ANY SAUCE AND PICKLES ON THE SIDE.. But of course they ADDED everything on the burger! I guess they don't know how to follow instructions or they just didn't care. That smash burger was the most disgusting burger I've ever tried. It was so sweet and just smothered in sauce and 🤢. The Steak tacos were horrible. They were cheap and the "steak " was way overcooked , tbh I don't even know if it was actual beef or some kind of processed by product. I've seen better looking dog food. I think that would have probably been a better alternative. Then the Chicken tacos where dry and had no taste at all. The order or yellow rice with pigeon peas didn't even have the right beans on it. They instead used pinto beans. Which I could have been okay with but it tasted like someone dumbed a whole container of salt in it. Biggest waste of money and time spent waiting for food that I was impossible to even eat. Don't waste your time or money here. I'm mean, unless you're complete wasted and dgaf what you're eating. Also tried calling the restaurant to see if they'd remake it or refund my money. But of course they didn't answer the phone the 3 times I tried calling.
May 02 · Tess HoffmanFood is flavorful, well portioned, balanced, and priced very well. I had the pineapple bowl. Very pleasantly surprised to see it served in a fresh pineapple half, that was fun and interesting! The decor may not be to everyones taste, but it was right up my alley. Perfect for a kids birthday or a family event. I love the cloud lights. Wait took a bit, but it was worth it. Staff were very kind. I had fun taking liminal photography of the balloons and lights while i waited. Will come back for tacos!
January 23 · Gabi MurrayEdit: I went back yesterday for dinner this time. I wanted to see if it was a once off due to drinking or if the food was actually good. Let me tell I was not disappointed the food was delicious and even better now that alcohol wasn't dulling my senses. I got the steak nachos again of course 😋, chicken island bowl, street corn and a chicken chipotle empanda. I definitely will be back this place is a gem.Late night hunt after bar hopping. If you are craving good comfort food afterhours, I recommend this spot. I got the loaded steak nachos 10/10 and the BBQ wings and fries. If you got the late night munchies, this is your spot. Note it looks closed at the express window, but try the doors.
February 23 · Kenya Roberts-chaconBest place to get empanadas around the city! Always flavorful and never empty! I recently tried the soft tacos and they were great as well! I really love the way they season the chicken! A lot of restaurants that make empanadas in Lancaster, are not consistent and aren't seasoned or prepared the same way each time. Spanish Island food consistently seasons and fills the empanadas so you get a nice chunk of protein with each bite! I do love that I can go there late at night after a drink or 2 and get consistently great empanadas! Staff are friendly and the menu isn't overloaded so it's easy to pick and order!
