Casa Mono Introduce
Nestled on the charming stretch of Irving Place, Casa Mono is a celebrated cornerstone of New York City’s Fine dining restaurant scene. Since being awarded its first Michelin Star in 2009—an honor it has maintained every year since—this distinguished establishment has cemented its reputation as a premier destination for Spanish cuisine. The restaurant’s philosophy, inspired by the fresh, vibrant cooking of Spain’s Costa Brava, delivers classic Spanish flavors executed with a contemporary, refined, and highly creative flair.
Casa Mono operates as an elevated Spanish restaurant and tapas bar, dedicated to showcasing the depth and diversity of regional Spanish cooking. While the format leans into the social and shared nature of tapas, the experience is decidedly upscale, a fact immediately evident in the ingredient quality and complex, thoughtful preparation of every dish. This commitment to excellence has earned it multiple accolades, making it one of the city's most beloved spots for a special night out.
The ambiance is a unique blend of *Upscale* refinement and intimate, *Cozy* European charm. Though the space is often described by locals as *tight* with tables packed close together, this proximity generates a lively, bustling energy that authentically mimics the experience of a hidden gem tapas spot in Barcelona. The decor is *Trendy* and the setting *Romantic*, perfect for couples or small groups seeking a memorable and highly flavorful evening. The attentive and warm service consistently receives high praise, enhancing the overall feeling of a well-cared-for dining experience.
The menu at Casa Mono is designed for exploration and sharing. Every plate is a work of art, featuring unexpected yet harmonious pairings. The dining concept is tapas-style, where Small plates are the focus, allowing diners to curate a multi-course experience. New York patrons frequently rave about the expertly prepared seafood, particularly the Razor Clams a la Plancha ($29.00) and the tender Pulpo with Fennel & Grapefruit ($18.00). The restaurant elevates traditional ingredients, as seen in the standout Bacalao Croquetas with Orange Alioli ($15.00) and the simple perfection of the Pan con Tomate ($10.00).
For more adventurous palates, the menu offers rich and unique creations. A dish that exemplifies Casa Mono’s innovative approach is the luxurious Creamy Eggs with Sea Urchin, Walnuts, Lime & Ancient Anchovy Oil ($29.00), which is a must-try for exploratory eaters. The main meat dishes are equally compelling, featuring plates like Skirt Steak with Romesco and Onion Mermelada ($35.00) and the decadent Foie Gras with Cinco Cebollas ($34.00), a famous pairing that is often recommended with a glass of the restaurant's exquisite sherry. Even classics like Patatas Bravas ($12.00) are elevated to Michelin-level standards.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Some really great quality seafood spot in Gramercy. Definitely on the pricier side, but these dishes are a great introduction for semi-exploratory eaters. Nothing crazy, but good quality ingredients with classic flavors with a modern spin. Some great dishes were the pulpo and razor clam. If you can, I recommend sitting outside on a sunny day.
September 22 · Laci kimI finally got to try Casa Mono in East Village, and I totally get why it’s so popular. It’s a super charming, dainty little Spanish spot with a cozy vibe that makes you feel like you’ve stumbled into a hidden gem in Barcelona. The space is definitely tight—tables are packed pretty close together—but honestly, it adds to the lively, bustling energy of the place. Just don’t expect tons of elbow room! The service was warm and attentive. Our server was really kind and made great recommendations without being pushy. One thing to note: this is more of a tapas-style restaurant, so portions are on the smaller side and the prices are definitely on the higher end—but the quality and flavors make it worth the splurge, in my opinion. As for the food, everything we tried was beautifully prepared and full of flavor. The clams were a standout—fresh, briny, and cooked to perfection. I also loved the pork meatballs, which were juicy and packed with savory depth. You’re greeted with a little dish of olives and bread when you sit down, and even that simple starter was delicious—such a nice welcome touch. We also ordered the flounder, which was good, but probably the least memorable dish we had—I’d say it’s okay to skip if you’re choosing between plates. We tried one of the daily specials as well, which was solid, though the clams and meatballs were the clear stars.Overall, I’d recommend going with a group so you can order a bunch of different dishes to share and get the most out of the experience. The whole place has such a lovely vibe—cute, intimate, and full of character. Whether you live in NYC or are just visiting, Casa Mono is definitely worth checking out for a special night out.
July 15 · S PCasa Mono has a well-deserved spot on the Michelin-recommended list — and it shows in much of the food. The skirt steak was outstanding, full of flavor and perfectly cooked, and the mussels were equally impressive. Most of what we ordered hit the mark, though the lamb was a letdown, feeling pretty mediocre compared to everything else on the table. What stood out, besides the dishes, is how different the dining rhythm feels compared to Spain. Over there, you can linger for hours, sipping wine, talking, and enjoying the relaxed atmosphere. At Casa Mono, once you’re finished eating, the check comes quickly, and you feel a subtle push to move along. It lacks that unhurried Spanish vibe, which is a bit of a shame given the cuisine they’re aiming to celebrate. All in all, it’s a strong restaurant with excellent highlights, but don’t expect the same leisurely, soulful pace you’d find in Spain.
October 01 · Alpay OzbayThis place was amazing! The food was great and the service was even better. It's not very big so I'd make reservation for sure. We booked ours over a month in advance. We will definitely be back next time we visit NY. And for a michelin star restaurant the prices are very reasonable. We ordered five items and were plenty full. It was the best shirt steak we've ever had and i think the goat might have been better.
August 23 · Randy LWe love Spanish food and heard about this one is good and recommended by locals. A little too high expectations maybe. The place is very casual and crowded. A lot of service people standing around making the space even more crowded. The food is good but not really to rave about. We like the fish over black rice. That is the best. The skirt beef steak is also delicious. The widely praised razor clams are little over cooked. And the pork belly is also very tough. We had better Spanish food at other places.
