Tio Pepe Introduce
Tio Pepe stands as a cherished and enduring culinary landmark in the vibrant heart of New York City’s West Village. Since opening its doors in 1970, this family-operated establishment has been a celebrated destination for New Yorkers seeking a genuine taste of Spain, blended with a touch of Latin American and Mediterranean flair. It’s more than just a restaurant; it’s an institution that offers a warm, cozy, and often romantic setting where traditional Spanish flavors meet the energetic, trendy atmosphere of downtown Manhattan. Its longevity in one of the world's most competitive dining scenes is a testament to its commitment to authenticity, fresh ingredients, and exceptional hospitality, maintaining its Spanish roots and family feel through the decades.
The culinary philosophy at Tio Pepe is centered on authentic Spanish cuisine, featuring real Spanish ingredients and recipes passed down through the Sanz family. While the menu has a broad scope, including influences from Latin American and Mexican food to create a diverse experience, its heart remains firmly set in Spanish flavors. Diners consistently praise the quality of the food and the attentive, genuinely kind service that makes every visit feel like a special event. From sizzling tapas and rich seafood dishes to traditional paella and delectable desserts, Tio Pepe offers a full spectrum of Spanish dining options for locals and visitors alike.
The range of offerings is impressive. Tapas, the Spanish art of small plates, are a major highlight and perfect for sharing or solo dining. Menu options include classics like Gambas al Ajillo (shrimp with garlic), Pulpo a la Gallega (Spanish octopus), Croquetas de Jamon (ham croquettes), and the ever-popular Patatas Bravas (spicy potatoes). They also embrace other Latin flavors with appetizers such as fresh, tableside-made Guacamole & Chips, and Empanadas al Horno. For larger appetites, the 'Platos Principales' feature selections like Churrasco, Salmon Asado, and the spicy Camarones al Diablo. However, Tio Pepe truly shines with its dedication to Paella and rice dishes, offering several varieties including the beloved Paella Valenciana and Paella Marinera. The inclusion of dishes like Raviolis de Langosta and Pargo al Mojo solidifies its classification as a Spanish, Seafood, and Mediterranean-influenced destination. The dessert menu completes the experience with traditional Spanish sweets like Churros, Flan, and Tres Leches.
Tio Pepe is classified by the New York dining community as a multi-faceted spot: a Spanish restaurant, Bar, Brunch restaurant, Latin American restaurant, Live music bar, Mediterranean restaurant, Mexican restaurant, Seafood restaurant, and Tapas restaurant, making it an ideal choice for nearly any craving or occasion.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1This place is INCREDIBLE. From the service down to the food, everything was impeccable. We had Diego as our server, and he was extremely attentive. At the bar we were served by Guillermo and he was also great! I’m already looking forward to going back! We ordered the pitcher of Sangria, the charcuterie board, the octopus, the seafood cazuela and the paella - everything exquisite. I highly recommend this restaurant
April 25 · Andrea GramajoThis spot is low key terrific! The service was super attentive and the staff were genuinely kind and welcoming. They’ve got a solid cocktail list and the menu offers a nice variety to choose from. My date and I ordered a bunch of tapas to split —chorizo, shrimp, and octopus—and everything was tasty and well seasoned. Very satisfied with the portions sizes. It's a great place to grab a bite and drinks before heading out for a night in the area.
September 07 · Ari TThis hidden place is one of the best I've been able to find, each dish is full of flavor that I really recommend, the drinks, the atmosphere and the service are something that I would come back for, I really recommend this place. And also they have a Nice paella
May 25 · Ashly Feliz SueroThe food, especially the paella, was honestly not amazing, but the sangria was very goo. Overall also a bit too expensive. I would only recommend to go to get small food and sangria with friends because the ambience is also nice.
August 11 · Marco AntonioliThe place is beautiful, the service is excellent, the drinks are good but the food... the food is lacking flavor. We tried tacos, hamburgers, fries, calamari, and every single dish was missing something. When the place was separated from burrito loco and ramblas, the flavors on each place were delicious. After the pandemic, they merged the 3 places, and obviously, the menu changed. It's disappointing 😞BUT, the place is nice and it's great for drinks and appetizers after work. 🍻
