Basque Tapas Bar Restaurant Introduce
For New York residents seeking an escape to the rich culinary traditions of Spain without the need for a transatlantic flight, Basque Tapas Bar Restaurant in Piermont, NY, offers a compelling and authentic destination. Situated in the picturesque village of Piermont, this establishment is highly regarded for bringing the vibrant flavors and social dining experience of Northern Spain—specifically the Basque Country—to the greater New York region. It proudly holds multiple classifications, including a Spanish restaurant, Tapas Bar, Basque restaurant, and a Mediterranean/Modern European dining spot, reflecting its diverse and authentic offerings.
The core philosophy of the restaurant revolves around the art of small plates, or tapas, which encourages sharing and sampling a variety of dishes in a social, unhurried setting. However, the menu extends far beyond tapas, featuring substantial main courses and, most notably, authentic paellas. The owner and veteran restaurateur, Benny Castro, established the venue with a vision to share a unique dining experience, emphasizing quality ingredients like Angus Certified meats, wild seafood (never farm-raised), and imported Spanish specialties such as Iberico hams and chorizo.
The dining experience at Basque Tapas Bar is built around flavor and quality. The menu is structured into traditional Spanish categories, providing ample choice for every diner. Highlights from the various sections include:
- Tapas: Essential Spanish appetizers perfect for starting the meal. Featured items are Gambas al Ajillo (Shrimp in garlic sauce) ($14.00) and Gamvas a la Plancha (Spanish marinated sizzling grilled shrimp) ($14.00). Customers frequently praise the shrimp dishes and the filet mignon tips.
- Tablas/Boards: Ideal for grazing and pairing with wine, options include the highly-prized Tabla de Jamon Iberico ($28.00) and the Tabla de Quesos (Mixed selection of cheeses) ($24.00).
- Platos Fuertes (Main Courses): Larger, hearty entrées for a full meal, such as Pollo al Ajillo (Classic Spanish Chicken in garlic sauce) ($19.00) and Churrasco con Pimiento y Cebolla (Grilled Angus skirt steak with sauté onions, peppers, and Spanish chips) ($34.00). The restaurant also serves various paellas—seafood, meat, and vegetarian—which are renowned for being prepared from scratch in the traditional method, requiring an approximate 30–40 minute cooking time to achieve the desired multi-textured blend, including the coveted crispy caramelized rice, or 'socarrat.'
- Desserts (Postres): Traditional Spanish sweets like Churros con Chocolate ($9.00) and Flan de Passion ($9.00) provide a perfect finish to the meal.
The entire dining experience is complemented by a professional and warm service pace, which many reviewers note makes them feel like family and ensures guests are never rushed. The restaurant’s commitment to quality is evident in the rave reviews that call out the freshness of the seafood, the tenderness of the octopus, and the delicious, perfectly balanced Sangria.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1A Hidden Gem for Seafood & Paella Lovers! We had an amazing experience at Basque Tapas Bar Restaurant with the family. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the food—truly unforgettable. We started with the seafood in green sauce, the seabass casserole, and the shrimp—all incredibly fresh and full of flavor. But the highlight for us was the octopus—so tender and delicious, easily one of the best we've ever had. They also serve a variety of paellas, including a meat paella— with chorizo, filet mignon, and other meats.Every dish felt thoughtfully prepared, and the service warm, professional and well paced. Can’t wait to come back!
July 27 · Rosa Antonini1000/10 recommend. We come as often as we possibly can! The garlic shrimp and filet mignon tips are out of this world. Sangria is delicious and perfectly balanced (I normally don’t drink sangria because it’s too sweet). The bread is also very clearly homemade. Perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Basque is consistently GREAT each time!!! Bravo!!!!PS- my phone clearly ate last with this photo lol
October 09 · Brittany LemonDelicious food and excellent service. The paella was absolutely top-notch—full of flavor and cooked to perfection. Initially, our table felt a bit cramped as the two-top tables were placed too close together, which made us uncomfortable. Thankfully, the staff was very attentive and quickly accommodated us by moving us to a larger table. Overall, a great dining experience thanks to the wonderful food and thoughtful service.
